ATTENTION STATE CONVENTION DELEGATES: CLICK HERE TO SUBMIT YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION.
The Convention originally scheduled for April is now being held VIRTUALLY on Saturday, June 13. The purpose of the State Convention is top elect delegates to the National Convention as well as a National Committeeman and Committeewoman. Please see details below regrading the June 13 State Convention. If you are a deluge and have any questions please contact us at 616-459-0141.
Congressional District Caucuses will occur also. These caucuses will be held separately and in a different manner than the June 13 State Convention. Please be on the lookout for details for this.
For a list of delegates (elected at the March County Convention, CLICK HERE).
Message from MRP Regarding the June 13 Convention Process
With health guidelines for June still unknown, we must move forward and elect our delegates per RNC rules so we can turn our focus to re-electing President Trump and Republicans up and down the ballot.
The following is a brief outline of how our virtual convention will operate.
First and most importantly, MIGOP will need your contact information, including name, mailing address, email, and phone number. If a delegate or alternate's contact information is incorrect or not listed in our records, they will not be able to vote.
To preserve ballot security, all delegates will be mailed a unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) to their home address with instructions that outline how to vote via text message. This precaution will allow you to vote on your smartphone when polls open on June 13. If you do not have asmartphone or text messaging capabilities, please indicate that on your information form and a member of my staff will reach out to you directly.
There will be a live broadcast of the convention from the Lansing Center beginning at 9 am. For transparency, I have invited all 28 members of the rules committee (2 members of each district) to attend the live broadcast.
The link to view the broadcast will be emailed to all delegates and alternates before convention day. You will need to enter the PIN code that was previously mailed to you to view the convention broadcast.
From 9 am-2 pm, delegates will be able to vote on the following:
- Approval of the At-Large Delegates
- National Committeeman
- National Committeewoman
Voting will close promptly at 2 pm and will not be extended. We will provide a customer service phone number and email for all questions and concerns.
Between 2-4 pm, my staff will audit the names of those who did not vote and contact alternates via text message, email, and phone to inform them that they have been elevated to delegate, in the order that was previously submitted to MRP by the District Chairs.
Alternates, please remain close to your phone throughout the day to answer any incoming calls, as you may receive crucial information about your elevation status during this time. These calls or texts may come from unfamiliar area codes.
Between 4-7 pm, voting will reopen, ONLY for the newly elevated alternates.
Alternate voting will close promptly at 7 pm and will not be extended. When the results become available, they will be broadcast live on the MIGOP's social media platforms and will also be sent to all participants via email.
The MIGOP staff will host several zoom training webinars to educate delegates on how to utilize our virtual voting system leading up to the day of the convention. Please look for email updates from the "MIGOP Virtual State Convention" with those details.WHENJune 13, 2020 at 9amWHEREVirtual

What is a Precinct Delegate?
A precinct delegate is elected directly by the voters in each precinct and are elected to serve as a liaison between the Republican Party and voters in their neighborhood. Precinct delegates also represent their neighborhood at various Republican meetings throughout their two-year term.
How to become a precinct delegate:
A person wishing to become a Republican precinct delegate must be a registered voter in the precinct they are running. The candidate must fill out an Affidavit of Identity and turn it in with the Kent County Clerk’s Office before 4pm on Tuesday May 5, 2020. Affidavit’s can be found at the Clerk’s office, the Kent GOP Headquarters or by clicking the link below. These affidavits need to be notarized before being turned in. Notary publics can be found at any local clerk’s office, local banks, and the Kent GOP Headquarters. Once an affidavit is completed it needs to be turned in to the Kent County Clerks Office—NOT Township Offices. This will put you on the ballot for the August Primary in your precinct with your name appearing under the heading “Candidate for County Convention Delegate.” Only those voting in your precinct and voting on the Republican side of the ballot will be able to vote for you.
Roles/Responsibilities of a Precinct Delegate:
The role of a precinct delegate is to be a liaison between their neighbors and the Republican Party and is responsible with helping turn out the Republican vote on Election Day. You will be asked to help register people to vote, distribute literature, identify Republican supporters and ensure they vote on Election Day.
You are also a delegate to the County Convention's called during your two year term. Depending on the cycle, this can be 3 or 4 conventions. Each convention has a different purpose which will be detailed when the convention is called. Conventions take place in Kent County in the evening and notices are sent to delegates detailing the time and location. These notices, or "Call to Convention", are sent out via first-class mail roughly 30 days prior to the convention.
While every election and delegate differ, delegates should plan on attending conventions and spending roughly 2 hours a week helping Republican Candidates up and down the ballot. If everyone who files does this, we will WIN THE DAY!
